There will be no Back To The City Hip Hop Festival this Year, for the first time in 14 years

The Hennessey Back To The City International Hip Hop festival has moved to the 27th of April 2021. The festival was expected to take place on the 10th of October 2020 after the original date was changed due to the Covid 19 outbreak. And now, it went back to its original date.

Back To The City International Hip Hop Festival is one of Africa’s biggest Hip Hop gathering,  attracting 25 000 goers in 2019, bringing the inner city alive.

In a statement, the reason for the postponement is stated and the overall health and safety of the patrons, artists and staff is their top priority. The festival set to take place at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.

“While the South African government and local health officials continue to work to protect the well-being of all in the country, we are excited to announce that the Hennessey Back To The City International Hip Hop Festival will take place on 27th April 2021 and will remain at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg.”

The statement also highlighted the number of people allowed to attend the event underneath the level 1 lockdown regulations. “Even though we are still at level 1, crowd restriction still remains at 500 people,” part of the statement read.

The statement also addressed the return of tickets bought for the festival should patrons not be willing to attend anymore. Patrons can go to their Webtickets profile to complete the transaction.
