“Tick Tock” is the 3rd single from Fashawn & ProducerTrentTaylor’s upcoming project, YOU OWE US WITH INTEREST.
“Tick Tock” features ICECOLDBISHOP who drops the verse of the year on the project. ICB’s verse is like mixing up Stove God Cooks and Pharoahe Monch in a blender with a sprinkle of Myka 9 from Freestyle Fellowship. You might know ICECOLDBISHOP from any of his 16’s with Denzel Curry, The Alchemist x Boldy James, and Ab-Soul. His debut LP last year got an 8 on Pitchfork which ended up being the best score for a rap album in all of 2023. ICECOLDBISHOP is a generational talent and mixing him together with a vet like Fashawn over some ProducerTrentTaylor production has all of the makings of one of the best rap songs in 2024.
YOU OWE US will drop on Friday, 9/27 on all DSP’s and with a limited cassette release (vinyl to follow shortly after). Features include ICECOLDBISHOP, Blu, The Grouch, Chris Crack, Eligh, Propaganda, Vel Nine, Reverie, Scarub, Odessa Kane, T.A. the Handful, and more. This album plays like a mixtape and will be on all end of year rap lists for the best 2024 projects. This isn’t a rap album, it’s mood music. All artists on the project are out to show that they’re better than everybody else. A bond was built with this project and the artists involved all have the chance to level up when it drops.
Fashawn hails from Fresno. He dropped a classic album with Exile called Boy Meets World back in 2009 and he was a part of the famous XXL Freshman Class of 2010 with J. Cole, Wiz, Nipsey, Freddie Gibbs, Big Sean, and Jay Rock. Fash was the first artist that Nas signed to Mass Appeal. He has multiple mixtapes with ALC, has an album with Murs, tracks with Cole, Nas, Snoop, The Alchemist, Busta Rhymes, Common, John Legend, Reverie, Roc Marciano, Blu, Aloe Blacc, Action Bronson, Rapsody, Evidence, and Dom Kennedy. Fashawn is the most professional rapper in the business. He doesn’t write bad raps. Every verse is special.
ProducerTrentTaylor has been making beats for over 20 years and gained a big following in the 2010’s for his lush instrumental projects that he dropped one after another in a 2 year span from 2014 - 2015. ProducerTrentTaylor’s production for Fashawn is similar for the soundscapes that Dan the Automator laid down for Del on Deltron 3030, what Blockhead laid down for Aesop Rock on Labor Days, and what 9th Wonder cooked up for Murs with 3:16: The 9th Edition. But Trent is just different… He is impactful in pockets that still allow emcees to swim under, over, and above them as needed to properly exercise their bars on each verse.
