Tell us a little about your music... My music is an expression of the things I experience in life. I like to take a moment and paint the picture with words that the listener can visualize.
What city do you represent? I represent the East Side of Detroit.
How has being where you are from influenced your music and career? Detroit has given me the ability to talk about the streets and the everyday struggles every person experiences at some point in life. Also the good because it isn’t all bad.
How would you describe the music that you typically create? I create music from the soul, but I’m very versatile. Because I make music based off my mood and the emotions the beat gives me it can vary.
What is your creative process like before and during the studio? I listen to the beat and let it tell me what to talk about. A beat can be fire and it just doesn’t pull emotion from me. Those beats I sit to the side. When I find one that moves me, the hook is the first thing that pops in my head. I take a few minutes to perfect it in my head and lay it out in the daw. From there it’s about flow, melody, and structure.
How much music do you have available online for fans and new listeners like myself? At the moment I have 5 singles released, one in which I just released on October 8, 2021. I have two promotional videos on my YouTube channel (theyvallmegutta).
Who are some of your biggest influencers or favorite rappers in the music industry? To be honest, I try not to be influenced by other artists. It’s not that I don’t love their music but I want to keep my sound as original as possible. Too many people are running with the same styles and I can’t get with that. Big Sean, Drake Cole, and Jay Z are some of my favorites if I had to list a few.
If you could work with any artist in the world (dead or alive), who would it be and why? If I could work with any artist it would be Drake because of the influence on the culture and versatility he has. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be? I would say that it needs more originality. The industry is washed down with a bunch of people who all sound the same. It needs some variety.
When it comes to branding and marketing your music, how do you distinguish yourself from another artist? At the moment, I’m still getting the marketing thing worked out but I’ve put together some campaigns that I’ll be testing this fourth quarter.
Do you feel the Internet/Social Media has impacted the music business for indie artists such as yourself? Yes, the internet is the perfect place to break records and blow artists like me up. You just have to find your niche in such a big virtual space. It’s not the easiest thing to do but when it happens you have to be prepared. Which song from your music catalog would you considered fans to listen to that represent you as an artist? I would recommend people to first check out '100 Proof,' that song has done some big numbers streaming wise but it paints the perfect picture of who I am.
Tell us about your recent release and what inspired you to create such a masterpiece? My recent release is titled only is, it was inspired by a number of experiences I've had and most men go through with their women. It’s a vibe that both men and women love because everyone under the sun has been in that space at some point in their dating life.
By any chance, do you have a video for your recent release or single? Tell us about the visual and the thought process behind the making of the video... I’m currently shooting the video to (Only Us) and plan on releasing it within the next week or two. This video bossy, sexy and displays certain confrontations that transpire in relationships. Do you have any future projects you are currently working on at the moment? I am currently working on a multi-track project to give to my fans. My strategy initially was to release singles until I gained the listener goal I wanted. I achieved that number so I want to return the favor with more music.
Any plans on going on tour this year or the near future? I’m not in the talk of any major tours just yet but I will be putting myself in the right places to become a part of the major tour within the next year. Tell us something you love to do and admire besides being a musician and entertainer? I love spending time with my family and working out. My family brings me peace and the gym relieves stress from everything outside of them. What’s next for you as a hip-hop artist and entrepreneur in 2021 and beyond? Becoming a big headline in the industry. Doing all the little things that stack up to that goal, the money will come. I’m focused on the experiences leading up to that moment and beyond it.
